PRESS

Maya Wild

I recently did a few interviews so I thought I'd put some images and links to them on here. The image below is from an interview I did for the Russian magazine Hooligan. If you can read Russian click on the image to enlarge it. The photos of me are by the photographer by Cat Stevens. Check out more of her photography here.

Heres a link to an interview with me in English and Japanese for the Japanese company GAS on their Atmosphere blog - click here.

I did a telephone interview for my friend David's blog. David is also know as the artist and designer David David. Check out this interview plus his work and blog here.

I also got a nice little post about me over at URBAN OUTFITTERS blog - click here.

UNCLE ED BY ALICE NEEL

In 1963 the artist Alice Neel painted a portrait of my uncle Ed. I recently got a chance to see it in real life at the Victoria Miro Gallery as part of the Alice Neel exhibition 'Men Only'. Ed was a friend of Alice and her sons and often stayed at their house. Below is some of Ed's memory's of this time.

'It was the first painting Alice did in her kitchen. I was seated at the dining table. All the other paintings were done in the living room! She asked me not to shave before the sittings. I knew Alice and her sons, Hartley and Richard, very well and I recall vividly sitting for Alice. I was a student with Hartley at Columbia, which was just up the road, and was a frequent visitor in their home. She used to store her paintings on a rack in a small bedroom near the entrance to her apartment. When I visited from Princeton, I used to sleep in that room, with dozens of her canvases facing me. The apartment was on the third floor, just at the level of the street lights. So I viewed her work by this eerie illumination'.

PRINTED TEXTILE DESIGN BOOK

I have some work in this book published last month by AVA Academia.

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PRINTED TEXTILE DESIGN
The Fundamentals of Printed Textile Design explores contemporary practice in printed textile design. It provides an introduction to the creative skills, techniques and processes required by designers in order to produce a professional, creative and commercially aware portfolio. This book outlines the process of creating designs, looking at the vital role played by drawing, colour, style and content. It also analyses how to contextualise and communicate effectively in order to build a professional portfolio, whether through traditional design staples or via a more original approach.

POWER POWER PICS

Photos from my show in San Francisco. Above is my Power Team - Jennifer D'Angelo who runs Nooworks, Noo Noo (the amazing dog) me and power pro Philip Manley.

SAN FRANCISCO.. WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT?

I met a whole bunch of nice people while I was in San Francisco.. Heres some pics and links to some of the artists I met -

Paul Wingert draws and takes rad photos.. Ferris Ploc and Kelly Tunstall (above right) work separately and also together under the name Kefe... and the artists Aiyana Udesen and Matt Furie (below) both do amazing drawings and make books and fanzines... and lastly the lovely Jennifer D'Angelo artist/designer and founder of Nooworks (above left) and not forgetting Noo Noo the dog.

BIG MASSIVE THANKS to everyone for being so helpful with the show, making me feel welcome and showing me San Francisco.

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the shop/gallery Vermillion Graham and meeting one of the owners Tony Vermillion (above). The shop has the best display of 70's and 80's avant garde pottery and sculture. Including the biggest collection of original Memphis group ceramics I have ever seen in real life. My favourite was a whole table full of Dorothy Hafner 1980's ceramics (pictured above) and shelves of original Nathalie Du Pasquier's sculptural ceramics. The shop also sells rare vintage designer clothes and many other collections of curiosities. It explodes with colour and rare design and is well worth visiting if your in San Francisco.
