POWER POWER II EXHIBITION GLASGOW

My Power Power exhibition is going on tour! First stop Glasgow then London. It will be at the Recoat Gallery, 323 North Woodside Road, G20 6ND Glasgow. The Opening night is Friday the 9th of March 7-10pm and then runs till the 8th April. Heres some blurb about the show below.

POWER POWER II is an exhibition by London based artist and illustrator Maya Wild. The exhibition was first shown at the Nooworks gallery in San Francisco in May 2011 and now travels with additional new work to Glasgow. Maya specialises in portraits mainly of musicians and the exhibition includes drawings of M.I.A, Patti Smith, Die Antwoord, Prince, Grace Jones, Dizzee Rascal, Devlin and many more. The show also has 2 limited edition Power Power T shirt designs and 2 Power packs which contain postcards, stickers and badges.

All of Maya's work is hand made using pencils, coloured pencils, paint and collage. Her clients have included Dazed & Confused, Nylon Magazine, EMI, Adidas and The Rolling Stones. She has previously exhibited in Paris, New York, Tokyo, London and San Francisco.

PRINTED TEXTILE DESIGN BOOK

I have some work in this book published last month by AVA Academia.

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PRINTED TEXTILE DESIGN
The Fundamentals of Printed Textile Design explores contemporary practice in printed textile design. It provides an introduction to the creative skills, techniques and processes required by designers in order to produce a professional, creative and commercially aware portfolio. This book outlines the process of creating designs, looking at the vital role played by drawing, colour, style and content. It also analyses how to contextualise and communicate effectively in order to build a professional portfolio, whether through traditional design staples or via a more original approach.

SAN FRANCISCO.. WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT?

I met a whole bunch of nice people while I was in San Francisco.. Heres some pics and links to some of the artists I met -

Paul Wingert draws and takes rad photos.. Ferris Ploc and Kelly Tunstall (above right) work separately and also together under the name Kefe... and the artists Aiyana Udesen and Matt Furie (below) both do amazing drawings and make books and fanzines... and lastly the lovely Jennifer D'Angelo artist/designer and founder of Nooworks (above left) and not forgetting Noo Noo the dog.

BIG MASSIVE THANKS to everyone for being so helpful with the show, making me feel welcome and showing me San Francisco.



One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the shop/gallery Vermillion Graham and meeting one of the owners Tony Vermillion (above). The shop has the best display of 70's and 80's avant garde pottery and sculture. Including the biggest collection of original Memphis group ceramics I have ever seen in real life. My favourite was a whole table full of Dorothy Hafner 1980's ceramics (pictured above) and shelves of original Nathalie Du Pasquier's sculptural ceramics. The shop also sells rare vintage designer clothes and many other collections of curiosities. It explodes with colour and rare design and is well worth visiting if your in San Francisco.

POWER POWER EXHIBITION OPENING THIS SATURDAY

My POWER POWER exhibition's opening night is this Saturday May 7th at Nooworks 395 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA, 5pm - 10pm. There will be bands playing, Power T shirts and prints for sale and also some of my stickers and badges will be given away free. The show runs until the 30th of July. Here's some of the work from the exhibition.
